And this is why I get pissed off when.. I talk about equality, and someone says “YOU WANT EVERYONE TO BE THE SAME”. No, that’s not how it works, and I’m sick of explaining it.
The people who react to steps towards a greater equality shouting about “TRUE EQUALITY” would see someone thrashing about in the water off the side of a ship, grab a life preserver, and carefully divide it into enough pieces for everyone present to have one.
Or more likely, simply hang onto the life preserver that they already had, under the logic that since it’s impossible to distribute the life preserver equally, it would be unfair to take it away, and that the person in the water isn’t being asked to give up anything.
Because let’s be honest, objections rooted in “true equality” are 90% about preserving the status quo.
